The Reasons Our Vanilla Is Special: Traditionally cured and hand-pollinated
Direct Trade: No Intermediaries
Many of the farmers in northwest Madagascar are our own relatives, and we deal directly with them. This guarantees unparalleled freshness and provides farmers with the just compensation they are due.
Sustainable & Ethical Sourcing
Your purchase helps fund our community initiatives, which include helping Madagascar’s children with their tuition.
Hand-selected quality
Our team selects each bean both in Madagascar and upon its arrival in Canada. Our Grade A packages only contain the most fragrant and well-formed pods.
🌍 THE LIFE CYCLE OF A PRODUCT
A Journey of Craftsmanship from Orchid to Customer Our vanilla beans go through a long and careful process that lasts for months and involves thousands of miles of travel, all guided by people and family tradition.
Hand-Pollination in Madagascar
Vanilla orchids only bloom for a few hours in the northwest part of Madagascar. During this short time, each flower is pollinated by hand, which is called "marriage of the flower" in the area. Farmers use a small bamboo stick and years of experience to make sure that pollination goes well. Vanilla can't grow without this step.
Growing and picking things naturally
Each pod grows on the vine for 8 to 9 months after it has been pollinated. Farmers keep an eye on their beans' colour, size, and maturity until harvest, picking only the ones that are fully grown.
